David So (So Cheung Shing) was born in Chaozhou in 1940. When he was young, he worked in a nitrogen fertilizer plant in Guangzhou, and became interested in electronics industry. After emigrating to Hong Kong in 1962, he was accepted as an apprentice at Sunshine Wireless Electrical Appliances Company, where he was responsible for repairing and installing electrical appliances. In 1965 he was employed by Ampex, an American electronics company, as technician in the testing department. During his employment there, he was doing research on the perforation technology for circuit boards. In 1972 David established Elec Computer Parts Company Limited which was a pioneer in the Far East in the production of double-side printed circuit boards. In 1975 he established Eltek Memory Products Company Limited. In 1979 Eltek Co. began to sell cordless telephones and explored the USA market. Elec Co. and Eltek Co. were merged in 1981 to become Elec Eltek Co. which, after three years, was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Market. At the end of the 1980s, David began to plan for moving the production process outside of Hong Kong. As a result, factories were set up in Thailand and the mainland in 1988 and 1993 respectively. Elec Eltek Co. was listed on the Singapore Stock Market in 1993 with adjustment of its line of production. In 2003 David resigned from the position of Executive Director to gradually leave the electronics industry.
