Tin Hing Sin (Sam Tin) was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, in 1949. He was the eldest son of Tin Ka Ping, the founder of Tin's Chemical Industrial Co. Ltd. (Tin's). In 1959, Sam Tin followed his family to Hong Kong, where he received primary and secondary education. In 1970, he entered Princeton University in the USA to major Chemical Engineering. In 1974, he returned to Hong Kong after graduation and joined Tin's management. Gradually he took over the factory's operation. While succeeding the founder's management style, he also brought reforms to the family enterprise. Production and management techniques were improved. The quality of PVC films and synthetic leathers was enhanced. In the 1990s, Tin's productions were relocated to Dongguan and Guangzhou as Hong Kong industries flocked to the mainland. By 2009, Tin's had entirely got rid of its production businesses.
