Yip Kam Fook was born in Tai Hang, Hong Kong in 1948. His schooling was subsidized by kaifong welfare association and Wah Kiu Yat Po (Overseas Chinese Daily News) scholarship because his family was poor. He had studied in Confucius Tai Hang School, Li Sing Tai Hang School, Wellington College and Chu Hai English School respectively, and had been determined to study arts subjects. After graduation from secondary school, he was recommended for continuing his studies overseas. However, he lost this chance because he had contracted tuberculosis. Suffering from his illness, he decided to give up his goal of studying arts and, instead, choose electrical engineering studies at Hung Hom Technical Institute. Having graduated, he worked in a trading company and obtained qualification as engineer. Afterwards he switched to construction field and had been doing very well since then. His last job before retirement in 2005 was Project Manager at New World Development Company Limted.
