Leung Shek Lun (SL Leung) was born in Nga Tsin Wai in 1936. His origin of ancestry was Lai Chee Yuen, which was near Hau Wong Temple. His father’s generation moved into Nga Tsin Wai. His grandfather was a man of considerable fame and wealth. His father graduated from Wah Yan College and worked as the Postmaster’s secretary. Before the war, SL Leung was made the nominal son of Ng Wai Chi, village head of Nga Tsin Wai. Since SL Leung’s family members died one after another during the war, SL Leung had lived with his nominal father. After peace was restored, he studied at Mongkok Workers’ Children School for 4 years, and dropped out for work at the age of 15. In 1962, Chi Tak Public School was founded. As arranged by his nominal father, SL Leung ran a kiosk in the school and, after 10 years or so, he also worked as a janitor. He retired in 1996. Profoundly influenced by his nominal father’s selfless devotion to public affairs, he was enthusiastic about community services. In the late 1960s, he joined the the Hong Kong Kowloon Merchants Hawkers Association, and was appointed as a co-opted committee member of the Wong Tai Sin District Council in the 1980s. Since 1966, he had been helping with the preparation for the Jiao Festival of Nga Tsin Wai. He was the major organizer in the 1986 and 1996 Jiao Festival. In 1989, at the invitation of Ng Gau, the Village Head, he took office of Representative of Nga Tsin Wai Village and Secretary to Ng Shing Tat Tso to help with affairs of the village and the clan. He also served in multiple local organizations.
