Born in Hong Kong in 1947, Ng Chi Wing is the 26th generation of the Ng Clan from Nga Tsin Wai Village. His father, Ng Yau Fat, was the Village Representative who was entrusted with assisting his fellow villagers in their negotiations with the Government. The eldest of his eight siblings, Ng Chi Wing was born in a poor polygamist family with many children. By the time he was born, Ng Chi Wing’s father’s and grandfather’s generations had already sold the majority of their ancestral properties. As a result, the family had no fixed abode in the village. Ng Chi Wing spent much of his childhood in the walled village, making many friendships that would last his entire life. He dropped out of school after completing Primary 6 to support his family, initially taking casual work as a machinery apprentice and seaman. In the early 1970s, Ng Chi Wing joined the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD). Not long after, he was allocated with staff quarters and moved out of Nga Tsin Wai. Ng Chi Wing was elected as the Deputy Village Headman in 1989 by the villagers and became its Village Headman in 2006. At this time, he invited trusted childhood friends to help him manage the village’s affairs. Ng Chi Wing belongs to Ng Clan’s second branch of the Ng Tung Un Tso line for which he also served as the Manager in 2006. While doing so, he managed the ancestral trust’s properties on behalf of the second branch.
