Ng Pok Kong was born in Hong Kong in 1951 and is one of the 29th generation of the Ng Clan in Nga Tsin Wai village, coming from the third branch (Ng Tai Un Tso line). His family originally moved away from their home village during Ng Pok Kong’s grandfather’s generation. The old man owned a lot of land, relying on its rent and farming to make his living. Pok Kong's family had begun to fall into decline during his father's lifetime and his father took work as a technician with China Light and Power (“CLP”). Ng Pok Kong spent his childhood in Kowloon City and Sham Shui Po. Every Chung Yeung, Jiao or other major festival, he would travel back to Nga Tsin Wai with his father to pay respects to his ancestors. Ng Pok Kong was educated at Kowloon Technical School and enrolled in Hong Kong Technical College after taking the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination. While there, he majored in surveying, eventually taking his first job in 1971 when he joined the civil service. He subsequently worked in logistics until he retired in 2006. In recent years, with the encouragement of his father, Ng Pok Kong has begun taking over the affairs of his family clan. In 2009, he succeeded his father as manager upon the older man’s death, overlooking the properties of Ng Shing Tat Tso on behalf of the third branch. Around this time, Ng Pok Kong also started to closely follow developments within Nga Tsin Wai village.
