Brief History:

Champion Industrial Co., Ltd. (“Champion”) was co-founded by Mr. Lau Bun and Mr. Kong in 1963. Lau worked as a travelling salesman in his early career before entering the plastics industry in 1956. Champion first opened in Tai Kok Tsui, manufacturing wallets, handbags and PVC products. In 1967, Lau bought the entire sixth floor of Lai Cheung Factory Building in Cheung Sha Wan, which led to an expansion of the factory’s area to 27,000 square feet. In 1971, Lau Bun and Wang Yung-Ching, a Taiwanese industrialist, co-founded a handbag factory. Champion sent over some of their core staff from Hong Kong to Taiwan as a result. By 1973, when Champion was in its heyday, the occurrence of the Oil Crisis posed serious challenges to the company. Lau’s daughter, Lau Dick Wah, joined Champion in 1975 and brought reforms in human resources management, marketing, capital-raising, and product development. She also started to work with American clients such as K-Mart and Avon. From 1979, the company began moving its production line northward to China in Guangzhou, Shanghai and later in Huadu. The Hong Kong production line was ended in around 1986. Between 1992 and 1993, with the passing away of the two co-founders, Champion’s supervision was taken over by the next generation. In 1993, Champion began to cooperate with a major French brand and launched its OEM business.
