Brief History:

Chit Shing P.V.C Products Mfy. Ltd. (“Chit Shung”) was founded in 1969. The founder, Chan Wah Cheong, started his career as an apprentice at a factory. Chit Shing produced plastic file bags, stationery, and wallet, etc. The Hongs helped the company take orders from clients and export the finished products. Chit Shing was swarmed with orders in the first eight years, but later it began to suffer from a loss of up to 0.5 million dollars because of 1) the high commission fees it had to pay the Hongs, and 2) its own negligence in cost calculation. From 1978, Chit Shing focused on taking orders from foreign brands. Thanks to its OEM business model, the company turned losses into profits. It continued to expand its workforce and factory size at the same time. In the early 1980s, the company had a 12,000-square foot factory located on Ng Fong St, San Po Kong with a total of 150-160 workers. It later set up another processing factory in Lo Wu, Shenzhen, in 1985, serving Japanese clients such as MUJI. The focus was shifted to bag manufacturing from 1989 onwards. The Shenzhen factory was moved to a new site in Dongguan in 1995, which allowed through-train production. This site once hired 3,200 employees. In 2004, Chit Shing was restructured into a non-profit social enterprise which applies its gains on charitable causes.
