The De-commissioning of Victoria Prison
Decision was finally reached to close down Victoria Prison with the last group of prisoners transferred out on 23 December 2005, ending the prison’s role as a penal establishment after 165 years of service in Hong Kong. The de-commissioning ceremony of Victoria Prison was held on 12 March 2006 and the prison was opened for the first time to the general public in March 2006.
