Chor Yuen

Before joining Shaw’s in 1971, Chor Yuen (1934-) was already a famous director of Cantonese films in his own right. As a Shaw’s director, he made many Mandarin films, including the period mystery film Intimate Confessions of a Chinese Courtesan (1972). This film attracted the mass audience with its unique style of glamour and peculiarity. Later, he made the Cantonese comedy film The House of 72 Tenants (1973), which was a humorous parody on social issues. The film broke the box office record at that time. Starting in1976, Chor Yuen turned Ku Lung’s novels into films, including Killer Clans (1976), The Sentimental Swordsman (1977) and Death Duel (1977). These adaptations brought about the wave of mystery martial arts films and pushed the Shaw’s martial arts films of to another peak.
