Long Pole Broadsword

Although not quite their real-life equals, prop weapons are meticulously designed to closely resemble the forms and functions of their magnificent real-life counterparts. Renowned martial arts choreographer Lau Kar Wing once remarked that filming with a broadsword poses a great challenge as its mastery requires much physical strength and skill. Even the master himself was drenched in sweat after practising a set of broadsword routine in Shaolin Martial Arts (1974).

Lau Kar Wing believed that the long pole broadsword has a distinct edge over other weapons with its long and heavy blade. Combined with a series of body-turning steps, it can mow down everything within its reach, trumping all other weapons.

Weighing 3.5 kilograms and two metres long, this prop long pole broadsword has a blade that is 1/3 of its full length.
