Maker's Note | This qin is inscribed with Oulu (Seabirds), the fourth poem in the Jingzhai Shi’er Qinming. Mr Xu Wenjing was particularly good at playing the qin piece Oulu Wangji (No Ulterior Motives regarding Seabirds). This piece was first seen in the Ming Dynasty in the Shenqi Mipu (Mysterious Manuscript) (1425) edited by Zhu Quan. The story originated from the chapter of Huangdi (the Yellow Emperor) of Liezi. The poem states that if a person has no ulterior motives, he can become close with seabirds. |
