The company screens Chinese films across the Nanyang region and mostly relies on the recommendation of the news media…” This passage was extracted from “The Movie Circle”, a magazine under the Shaw banner and briefly described how Shaw Run-me developed the cinema business in Nanyang since the mid-1920s. In a short period of over 10 years, he established Shaw’s own film circuit and distribution network, linking together over 110 cinemas.
