Perpetuation of the Heritage

The residents of Tai Hang have invested major efforts and overcome many obstacles to ensure the custom continues. Led by their welfare association, they have established a successor system so that the knowledge and skills required for the fire dragon dance can be handed down to the next generation systematically. The way in which they carry forward and extol the value of their local cultural heritage so it stands as a collective activity that builds local identity and community solidarity deserves great admiration. In the process of urbanisation, the scarcity of land for public use in Hong Kong makes sustaining traditional local events even more of a challenge. In that light, the Tai Hang fire dragon dance is a particularly sterling success.

Mid-Autumn Festival - the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance was inscribed onto the third national list of intangible cultural heritage in 2011.
