Lee Peng Fei was born in Yantai in 1940. His native place was Shandong. His father had done business in the US for many years. He lived temporarily in Shanghai during his childhood to evade from war. In 1954, he moved to Hong Kong and stayed with his relatives, and was later educated at Hong Kong Adventist College and Pui Ying Secondary School. In 1958, he left for the US to study at the University of Michigan majoring Engineering Mathematics. Upon graduation, he worked in Lockheed Aircraft until he returned to Hong Kong in 1966 to serve as Test Engineer at Lockheed’s branch factory. He was promoted to Test Engineering Manager the year after. In 1970, he took up a new position at Ampex Ferrotec and was initially in charge of the core memory system business and training local Hong Kong engineers. Promoted to become General Manager of the Asia-Pacific Region, he was responsible for managing human resources and sales. In 1978, he received an invitation from Governor Sir Murray MacLehose to serve as a Legislative Councillor, which was the first step of his political life path. He resigned from Ampex in 1985 to become an Executive Councillor. Between 1985 and 1991, he founded two electronics companies: Meadville and Jada. After losing the Legislative Council election in 1998, he took a less active role in politics and began hosting radio shows at various news and media organizations.
