Correspondence relating to the proposed establishment of a British school and a Chinese high school
This collection of correspondence recorded discussions related to two petitions presented respectively by the European community and a group of Chinese elites. It was suggested that a British school for European and American children and a 'High School for Chinese' should be established by the Government for the education of children from these two groups, whose needs could not be efficiently met by the education provided by Queen's College and the Belilios Public School. Subsequently, the Central British School (1902), and the St Stephen's College (1903) and St Stephen's Girls' College(1906) were opened under the Government and the Church Missionary Society respectively.
