Chua Boon-hean

Chua Boon Hean (1905-1995) had worked for Shaw Brothers for nearly half a century. He started his career with Shaw Brothers in 1929 when he joined the Haixing Film Company set up by Shaw Brothers in Singapore and took up the position of secretary-cum-cinema manager. From 1936 to1973, he was the manager of the Chinese section of Shaw’s operations in Singapore and was in charge of various crucial duties, including the editing of the official magazine “Movie Circle”, the writing of screenplay in both the Chinese and Mala languages, and the review of the screenplays delivered to the Nanyang region from Hong Kong. He played an important role in expanding the Nanyang market for Shaw’s.
