Doe Ching (1915-1969) already had quite considerable fame before joining Shaw’s. From 1955 to 1969, he made a number of musical & romance films, for instance, Love without End (1961), Les Belles (1961), Love Parade (1963) and so on. With these films, he explored alternative possibilities amidst the overwhelming current of the Huangmei Opera films prevailing at that time. Doe Ching was the core maker of Shaw’s wenyi (drama) films.
