Liu Chia-liang

Since joining Shaw’s in 1965, Liu Chia-liang (or Lau Kar-leung, 1934-2013) had been Director of martial arts for Chang Cheh for a long time. He participated in the production of a number of Shaolin-related feature films such as Heroes Two (1974). In 1975, Liu started out on his own and worked as director under the Shaw banner. He claimed that in his films, he aimed at showing the South China culture and the martial arts tradition with real martial arts. The 36th Chamber of Shaolin (1978), for instance, described the training process of the Shaolin monks and unfolded the Shaolin legends and features of martial arts of South China. Liu died of cancer in 2013.
