Ni Kuang

Ni Kuang’s (1935-) contribution to the wave of the Shaw’s martial arts movies in the 1960s was unquestionable. He wrote screenplays for the Shaw’s in the late-1960s. He was adept at creating ambience, portraying characters and mixing elements of suspense and intricacy into his stories. Also, his screenplays enabled new faces on the movie screen to easily exude their unique presence. Therefore, his scripts were tantamount to a booster for Shaw’s to produce silver-screen stars. If Chang Cheh helped Shaw’s to pioneer the wave of martial arts films, then Ni Kuang was one of the behind-the-scene contributors to this wave. He had written over 200 screenplays for Shaw’s. His representative works included One-armed Swordsman (1967), The Golden Swallow (1968), Vengeance! (1970) and The Blood Brothers (1973).
