Liu Yung

In the period of keen competition between the two big film corporations, Shaw’s and Golden Harvest, many actors were the targets of competitive recruitments. Liu Yung (1952-) could be said to be the representative figure of those who moved from Golden Harvest to Shaw’s. He joined Shaw’s in 1975. Soon afterwards, he abandoned his usual martial arts roles and appeared in many period films. In Emperor Chien Lung (1976), he brought the character Emperor Chien Lung to live. The movie was so popular that he subsequently starred in a series of Chien Lung films, such as The Adventures of Emperor Chien Lung (1977). In the 1980s, Liu Yung shifted to the TV circle, and became popular with the role of Emperor Qin Shi Huang.
