Cheng Pei-pei

“Southern Experimental Theatre Company” had provided training to many new faces for Shaw’s. Cheng Pei-pei(1946-) was one of the outstanding newcomers. In 1963, Cheng was admitted to Shaw’s acting training class. In 1964, she won the Golden Warrior Award of the International Independent Producers’ Association and was recognized as the most promising newcomer. Thereafter, she was offered the opportunity to collaborate with best actress Linda Lin Dai in The Lotus Lamp (1965). As Cheng had practiced dancing from a very young age, she naturally incorporated dancing elements into her combat actions in Come Drink with Me (1966). This brought her instant fame. She then performed in other martial arts films, including The Golden Swallow (1968), Lady of Steel (1970), etc. These films explored new horizons for Shaw’s martial arts films, and also won Cheng Pei-pei the name of the “Movie Queen of Martial Arts”.
