Fang Ying

“Southern Experimental Theatre Company” provided training for many new faces for Shaw’s. Fong Ying (1945 – 2010)was one of those who joined Shaw’s after graduating from the theatre company. She played the leading role in A Maid from Heaven (1963) soon afterwards. Her fresh and innocent appearance impressed the audience. At the time, while the wave of Huangmei Opera movies was sprouting, she followed in Ling Po’s footsteps, and became one of Shaw’s main casts of Huangmei Opera films. The West Chamber (1965) was one of the famous Huangmei Opera films she starred in. She also performed in a number of modern wenyi (drama) films. Mist over Dream Lake (1968) and Auntie Lan (1967) were the more well-known ones and had become classics in their own right.
