Raymond Chow

In 1959, Raymond Chow (1927-) accepted Sir Shaw Run-run’s invitation to work for Shaw’s as Promotion Officer. During his tenure, he assisted Shaw Brothers in the purchase of the site at Clearwater Bay, in building the Shaw Studios and in developing Shaw’s into the biggest filmmaking studio of Hong Kong. In 1960, Raymond Chow was promoted to the position of Production Manager, and in the following year, rose to Deputy General Manger-cum-Production Manager. During this period, he introduced many western management systems into the company. He also settled the contract disputes of Wang Yu, Ivy Ling Po and others. Raymond Chow left Shaw’s in 1970 and set up his own film company, Golden Harvest.
