Horror

Most early horror films featured monsters and ghosts, and captured the audience with blood curdling scenes and sound effects. In the 1960s and 70s, the success of Hollywood horror classics including Rosemary’s Baby (1968), The Exorcist (1973) and Omen (1976) in Hong Kong prompted Shaw’s to join the trend. Combining folk customs, superstitions, horror, and supernatural and action elements, Kuei Chih-hung made Ghost Eyes (1974) and the Hex trilogy (Hex (1980), Hex Vs Witchcraft (1980) and Hex after Hex (1982)); Ho Meng-hua also directed the Black Magic Trilogy (Black Magic (1975), Oily Maniac (1976) and Black Magic 2 (1976)). In Southeast Asia, the impact of these films was far-reaching.
