Since the mid 1970s, various media channels began launching their own weekly pop charts in response to the uprising trend of Canto-pop. There were RTHK’s “Chinese Pop Charts” and CRHK1’s “Chinese Pop Ring”. “Jade Solid Gold” of TVB began broadcasting in 1981. These charts showed the greatest airplay. As fans regarded highly of these pop charts, newspapers or music magazines would publish the weekly chart results as announced by radio stations.
