Cap-sleeved and sleeveless cheongsam (3)

The cheongsam of the 1940s embodied a continuation of the 1930s version in form, although the hemline was raised to reveal the calves. Barely embellished, cap-sleeved and sleeveless cheongsam were very popular at the time. The calendar posters of the 1930s with their pictures of fashionable models reflect the popularity of cap-sleeved and sleeveless cheongsams in Hong Kong of that era.

Lined golden satin sleeveless cheongsam with double front-flap and lined purple velvet sleeveless cheongsam with double front-flap have half openings on the right side. With a double front-flap design, the left front-flap is for decorative purpose only and cannot be opened. Dual-coloured flower buttons of different shapes are used on both dresses. The flower buttons on the collar and front-flap form a distinctive pattern while knot-shaped buttons are used on the sides.
The collar, cuffs, front-flap and hem of the golden satin cheongsam is decorated with delicate, thin pipings and bindings. Those of the purple velvet cheongsam are decorated with floral borders.
