Matsheds of the Happy Valley Racecourse, c. 1900

This photo shows a very long stretch of matsheds decorated with Japanese flags, which could mean that a high-ranking Japanese was at the Racecourse. The infield was packed with people, including women and children and food stalls were conveniently scattered around. At far left, in English, reads a sign " The United Stand". c. late 19th Century or early 20th Century.
