Village scene, Kam Tin, Yuen Long

Kam Tin, a walled village in the New Territories is typical of many such villages and affords a glimpse of real China. Kam Tin is also famous for its iron gates which were summarily removed to an estate in Ireland as a punishment on the villagers for putting up resistance when the Territories were leased to Britain. The gates were returned with considerable ceremony in 1925.
