The building on the left is the original Police Station. It was built soon after 1860. The Police Station was extended and largely rebuilt in 1884. The new Water Police Station was later called the Marine Police Headquarters. The beach and bay shown were later reclaimed to provide the present site for the Peninsula Hotel and Salisbury Road.
