Ohel Leah Synagogue, the Mid-Levels

The Synagogue was built in 1902 by a banker, Sir Jacob E. Sassoon, in memory of his mother, Mrs. Leah E. Sassoon. It is an Eastern Jewish styled building with two storeys, and a balcony on the upper floor for the use of woman disciples. It was renovated in 1998. The renovation project obtained the Outstanding Project Award of UNESCO Asia - Pacific Heritage 2000 Awards for Culture Heritage Conservation.
