The junction of Ice House Street, Queen's Road Central and Battery Path, Central District

Established in 1845, the Hong Kong Ice Company on the left sold natural ice imported from North America. To help transportation, the Government allowed the Company to occupy a piece of land on Queen's Road, previously used for coal storage, free of rent for a period of 75 years. Ice was stored in the basement. In return, the Company had to provide hospitals with ice at a low price every day. Ice House Street was then known as Ice House Lane. After the reclamation works in Central District, Ice House Street was extended to Connaught Road Central. On the left is the Battery Path, which led to the Murray Battery.
