Side inscriptions: Xiangen, Bureau Director, is outstandingly talented and scrupulously honest, and a man of great integrity and repute. Apart from his work, he is familiar with culture and arts, assembling a dazzling collection of antiquities that reminds people of the one Ni Zan built up in his Pure and Secluded Pavilion. Although the bronze-and-stone collection might not bring him immortal fame, it is worth the attention as it represents the vestiges of the past. Presented respectfully by Qu Weijie, your junior. In the sixth month in the summer of the year bingzi (1936). I am deeply grateful to you for the promotion and guidance.
