Nan Yang (or Southeast Asia), Nyonya style by Leung Lai Man, Jess and Wong Wing Shan (Flyingpig)
During Dr Sun Yat-sen's years of exile, the Chinese in Southeast Asia provided him with the much needed financial support. He set up branches of the Tongmenghui in Singapore, Penang and Kuala Lumpur to raise funds and organise those who supported the revolution in China. The Chinese in Southeast Asia had brought with them ample Chinese culture and customs, which had left their mark in local architecture and costume while incorporating Chinese images and symbols with the bright colours of the tropics. This screen seen here is representative of this cultural style.
