Lovers' Tears, premiered in Hong Kong on 30 May 1958, was directed by Chow Sze Luk and produced by Shun Yee Film Co. The screenplay was adapted from a Cantonese opera of the same title by the Sun Yim Yeung Opera Troupe, which in turn was originated from a renowned Chinese opera The Supreme Sacrifice by Zhou Ren.
