Tung Wah directors in Assembly Hall of Tung Wah Hospital

The Qing court awarded official titles to the directors of Tung Wah in recognition of their fundraising efforts for natural disasters in mainland China. The directors were thus allowed to receive Qing government officials visiting Hong Kong dressed in guanfu (official robe). This photograph, taken in circa the late 19th century in the Assembly Hall of the Tung Wah Hospital, shows Tung Wah directors wearing the Qing official robe and headgear.
