Life of Movie Poster Artist, Chow Keung

Born Vietnamese-Chinese, Chow Keung had drawn grant movie posters for theatres in Vietnam for more than ten years before he came to Hong Kong in the late 1960s to open a martial arts school and work as a movie stuntman. In the early 1980s, Chow Keung picked up his paintbrush again, and drew for many theatres until he retired in the late 1980s when the demand of hand-drawn posters dwindled. Chow Keung drew the poster according to the film still provided by the film company. Jackie Chen directed, penned and starred in this movie and shown during the Chinese New Year. Based on the movie poster, the hand-drawn billboard with actors' names and an advertising slogan would be displaced in a lightbox inside the cinema. Hand-drawn poster of Tragic Hero (1987).
