Racegoers at the Happy Valley Racecourse, 1990s

This photo was taken on a day when there was no horse racing scheduled on the tracks in Hong Kong. It was the day of Melbourne Cup Day races, which held in Australia. Three of the races were telecasted to Hong Kong, and the large Diamond Vision video screen at the infield of the Happy Valley Racecourse showed the races to Hong Kong racegoers.

Besides watching contests in the Southern Hemisphere, the racegoers could place bet on the simulcast races at both on-course betting booths and off-course betting branches. The Club launched such betting service for overseas simulcast races on 21 October 1989.
