Man Mo Temple, Sheung Wan

The Man Mo Temple in Hollywood Road, is the oldest shrine in Hong Kong. Literally, "Man" means "civil" and "Mo" is "martial", thus the temple is dedicated to the two gods - King Emperor Man and Holy King Emperor Kwan Mo who, between them, are believed to possess the purview of protecting the well-being of man. Statues of the gods are carried during special celebrations in two sedan chairs which were made in 1862 and 1885 and are on view to the public.
