Po Leung Kuk, Causeway Bay

Po Leung Kuk established the Temporary Home for Women in 1878 for women who needed care and protection, because they had no social status in those days. It was organized by those who were concerned about such conditions. This centre takes care of those women who were kidnapped for prostitution, and women and young girls who run away from home. The centre could also help these women to find a spouse so they can form a family. Sponsorship for and adoption of female children are now important functions of the centre. Po Leung Kuk has now extended its services to creche, nursery (including the retarded), hostels, education (establishing schools), holiday camps and medical care. Its aim is to serve the community. The present building at Leighton Road was built in 1932. The driveway and the decorated archway were added in 1966.
