New Towns Development

An aerial view of Kwun Tong Satellite Town during early stage of development. Most industrial land shown in the photo was reclaimed from sea. The photo shows Castle Peak Bay during its early stage of Tuen Mun New Town development Shatin New Town in 1977 was yet to be developed completely. There were still a large number of vegetable farms in the area. There are several pieces of farmland in Tuen Mun in 1977. In the foreground is Tai Hing Estate before completion. Tuen Mun New Town has yet been fully developed in 1977. Tai Hing Estate is under construction on the right.

Shatin New Town was still development in 1978. In the foreground is Shatin Wai. Sha Kok Estate in Shatin is to be built on the construction site in the photo. In the foreground is Shatin Wai. By 1978, Tsuen Wan had been developed into a new town with many multi-storey concrete buildings. The densely built coastal area of Tsuen Wan in 1978 can be seen in the photo. There are still a few pieces of land along the coast and towards the inland area, which have yet been developed. The building of Tuen Mun New Town was still in progress during 1978. Some pieces of reclaimed land were pending for further development.

Sun Tin Wai Estate (centre) and Shatin Tau San Tsuen (right) can be seen in the photo. Both Kwun Tong Resettlement Estate and Wo Lok Estate can be seen near the centre of the photo, while Sau Mau Ping Resettlement Estate (right) is under construction. On the upper left hand side is Shell Oil Depot, where the present Laguna City stands. This is an aerial view of Kwun Tong Satellite Town during early stage of development. The industrial and residential areas are separated by a nullah. Fuk Loi Estate is under construction. The Ngau Tau Kok Village is situated in front of some newly-constructed industrial blocks. The Village is separated from the industrial blocks by a main street. It is a Hakka stonecutters’ settlement which has later been demolished in 1966. Fuk Loi Estate and Tsuen Wan Satellite Town are built on reclaimed land. Texaco Oil Depot can be seen in the background.
