Reception of Prisoners

The Reception Office was located at the ground floor of F Hall and was one of the busiest sections in Victoria Prison. On admission, all convicted prisoners had to be interviewed by the Superintendent. All prisoners on admission had to be photographed, front and profile. All prisoners on admission had to be photographed, front and sides. The prison had taken fingerprints of prisoners since 1904. Computer scanners has replaced inked fingerprinting.

Holding grills was the waiting area in the reception room for holding prisoners temporarily for the reception process.
