The story of the film was adapted from the novel of the same title by Chin Hung. The concealed blade inside the sole of Alexander Fu Sheng (as Cho Yi Fan) invented by Tong Kai appears in the later part of the trailer.

Both the broken sword of Tommy Ti Lung (as Tuen Cheng Tsin) and the short knife of Alexander Fu Sheng (as Ko Mun) were designed by Tong Kai and can be seen in the trailer.

The Magic Blade, released in Hong Kong on 10 July 1976, was directed by Chor Yuen and produced by Shaw Brothers (Hong Kong) Limited. The story of the film was adapted from the novel of the same title by Ku Lung. Tong Kai designed the spinning sabre, a hybrid of a tonfa and a sabre, for Tommy Ti Lung (as Fu Hung Hsueh) can be seen in the trailer. The sabre can be drawn quickly with the help of magnet.
