Xu Wenjing’s eyesight was continuously failing from the middle of his life and by 1957, he was totally blind. When Xu Wenjing’s vision began to decline, he was no longer able to paint. He channelled his passion, therefore, into poetry and literature. The Xihu Baiyi is a collection of 109 poems he wrote between 1952 and 1955.
