In an attempt to tackle Hong Kong’s serious youth unemployment problem, Hong Kong and Kowloon Kaifong Research Council’s Youth Division has announced plans to set up a Youth Pavilion at the forthcoming Silver Jubilee Exhibition of Hong Kong Products. The booth’s key activity will be the staging of an exhibition about youth recreational activities.

Leftist newspapers were critical of the government’s setting up of a Hong Kong pavilion during the recent products exhibition claiming that it falsely showcased ‘benevolent policies’ that deceived attendees.
Hong Kong and Kowloon Kaifong Association’s Youth Division placed an advertisement in the newspaper that appealed to the young Hongkongers to participate in activities at its Youth Pavilion at the event.
A leftist newspaper accused the Silver Jubilee Exhibition of Hong Kong Products of being simply a window dressing of the government’s ‘benevolent policies’ and giving participating manufacturers only a very small area to display their goods. The contents exhibited in the government pavilion were also questioned.
A voluntary reporter reported how the unpleasant actions of one exhibition field agent in checking entrants’ luggage had caused great dissatisfaction among visitors.
The CMA hosted a forum and invited media representatives to discuss interview procedures for the opening day of the Silver Jubilee Exhibition of Hong Kong Products, reminding attendees that the Governor would only be able to visit the venue for about 10 minutes. The Information Services Department also suggested that reporters who intended to be on-site should first send their names to the Department beforehand to help make it easier for the police to maintain order.
The editorial writer mentioned that the government and business community both placed great importance on the Silver Jubilee Exhibition of Hong Kong Products. He went on to say that the annual exhibitions were a wonderful showcase for Hongkongers’ ability to demonstrate their resilience in difficult environments. The main gate design, super-large booths, participating organisations and overseas study visits for the Silver Jubilee Exhibition were featured. The ‘Consume Hong Kong Products’ campaign among local people was also publicised.
15 years ago, the total value of Hong Kong’s annual Exports to the world was less than HK$3,000,000,000. This year, that amount was close to HK$8,500,000,000. In opening the Silver Jubilee Exhibition of Hong Kong Products, the Governor pointed out that the current situation did not post any real threat to Hong Kong’s economy. He subsequently guaranteed that his government retained the determination and strength to deal with unlawful acts caused by political incitement.
RTHK staged the radio drama ‘An Affair to Remember’ at its booth during the 25th Exhibition of Hong Kong Products. Attendees were also able to follow the story in leading local newspapers.
Previous products exhibitions failed to achieve their goals in encouraging the territory’s population to consume locally-made products. However, the riots did help to increase consumption of Hong Kong products.
