The screenplay of the film was adapted from the novel of the same title by Liang Yusheng. The film won numerous awards at the 13th Hong Kong Film Awards Presentation Ceremony and the 30th Golden Horse Awards Ceremony. In the trailer, Leslie Cheung (as Cheuk Yat Hong) wields a long sword. This trailer comes from the 4K restored version of the film that was made in 2020 to commemorate the seventeenth anniversary since Leslie Cheung passed away.
