The flat-tipped sabre featured in The Bride with White Hair (1993) is a machete (also known as Ghost-head Sabre). A piece of fabric can be tied to the ring at the hilt to wipe off blood. Machete was the staple weapon used by Chinese soldiers in films about the Second Sino-Japanese War. By elongating the hilt of the machete, it becomes a horse-hacking sabre. The sabre that General Yue Fei’s troops allegedly used in the Song dynasty was a type of horse-hacking sabre call mazhadao, its length and weight were between those of long and short weapons.
